- Superintendent Search: Champaign Unit 4 Schools will hold a community forum on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 7 PM at Centennial High School regarding the search for a new Superintendent. The community forum will be led by the search firm, School Exec Connect. The Junior League of Champaign-Urbana is assisting with the event. See attched PDF for more info and the link to the survey.
- Science Olympiad: Students interested in Science Olympiad should attend an short meeting immediately after school on Thursday Sept. 15 in room 348. Science Olympiad is open to 6-8th grade students with a serious interest in science and technology. We will be handing out applications and explaining the program. A fifteen person team will be formed and will compete against other middle schools in the area. The meeting should be done by 3:30. (Coach Kevin Kuppler)
- PTSA Meeting: The 2nd Tuesday of every month, Edison PTSA holds the monthly meeting in the Edison Library at 7 pm. All are welcome to attend. September 13th will be our first meeting we want you there. This is a great way to inform parents about school events, meet teachers and staff, and find out how you can volunteer.
- Open House: Edison's open house will be Wednesday, September 14th from 6-7:30 pm. Parents should arrive a bit early and go to the auditorium. School administrators and PTSA will say a few words and then parents will have an opportunity to visit classrooms. PTSA will be providing snacks in the cafeteria.
- Homework Help: Stuck on homework? Come to Homework club 2:50 - 4:00 p.m.with Miss Stanke after school on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Be in room 122 by 2:50 p.m. with ALL materials you will need. You must sign in. You only have to stay until you are done, and only have to come on the days you need help! (parents if you would like to help with this please email me and let me know!!)
- Athletic Events: Below are our athletic events for next week. Girls basketball begins next week with THREE home games. Hope you can stop by to cheer the girls on. We also begin our regional play for Baseball on Tues., Sept. 13.

XC to Kickapoo State Park, 4:00 pm (runners need to be dismissed from class at 2:00 – please do not dismiss them earlier since the Unit 4 buses are having a difficult start to the year they are showing up later than late so our kids have plenty of time to get dressed then meet their coaches)

- School Dance: Edison's first dance will be on Friday, September 16th from 6-8 pm. Admission will be $2. Students will need to bring signed permission slips to be admitted in. PTSA will have concessions open so students may want to bring extra money. Something new this year is we will have a photographer at the dances so students will have an option to have their picture taken with friends. Photos will cost $3. We need chaperones for this dance. - Booker T. Washington Alumni: Calling all alumni of Booker T. Washington Elementary! You are invited to the dedication and open house at the new Booker T. Washington Stem Academy on Thursday, September 15, 2011. The dedication will take place at 5:30 PM, with tours and open house to follow from 6:30-8 PM. Booker T. Washington STEM Academy is located on the site of the historic Booker T. Washington Elementary School at 606 East Grove Street, Champaign. This event is open to the public and all are welcome to attend.
- BBB Tryouts: Tryouts will begin on Monday, Oct. 17. Watch for the fliers around school so you will know what time your tryout is. Any 6th, 7th and 8th grade boy interested in trying out the 7th and 8th grade IESA teams must have all their required paperwork (current physical, completed Champaign Unit 4 form and a copy of their insurance card/medical card) turned in to Ms. Borchardt by Friday, Sept. 30.
- Golf "Fore" the Band: The Edison Band program will be hosting it's 1st ever golf outing on Saturday, September 17th at the U of I golf course. Shotgun start at 8am, $75 per person includes greens fee and cart, range balls, prizes and lunch. Hole sponsorships are available at $100 each. At County Market You can sign up for OR register your current County Market Max Card for Education to Edison Middle School, the number is #331. Remember even if you have already registered this needs to be updated annually. Target has a similar reward program called Take Charge for Education. Simply apply for a Target charge (Red Card)/debit card, get approved, and Target donates 1% of your Red Card/Target Debit card purchases to your school.
