Edison's Mission
It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

Assistant Principal: Mr. Jeron Blood has been selected as Assistant Principal of Edison Middle School. Mr. Blood began his teaching career when he joined Unit 4 Schools as a Special Education Teacher with the Functional Life Skills Program at Centennial High School. He has held this position since August 2010. Mr. Blood is a member of the Social Justice Committee, Centennial's Tier I Committee, and Sponsor of the Interact Club at Centennial. Mr. Blood holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education (2010) from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Master's degree in Educational Administration and Leadership (2013), also from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The effective date of Mr. Blood's appointment will be determined by District Administration based on students' needs.
Family Literacy Night: all Edison families are invited to school on Thursday, November 20, 6:00-7:30 pm. Family Literacy Night is a celebration of reading and writing hosted by the Edison ELA department. Families can come and choose three out of several exciting sessions (Poetry Coffeehouse, AVID Socratic Seminar, Celebrity Read Aloud, Games, Crafts, and Creating with Technology). We're excited to have the Ripchords, members of Edison's Jazz Band, and U of I athletes participating! Come for fun, food, prizes, and LITERACY!!!!
Book Donations Needed: The ELA department is in need of your gently-used books (any age-range or genre) to give away at Family Literacy Night. Please send your donations to school (the main office or Ms. Durst's room) before Nov. 20.
Refreshments for Family Literacy Night: The English Language Arts faculty members at Edison Middle School are planning a Family Literacy Night for November 20. The PTSA is excited to be partnering with our teachers by providing refreshments for the Poetry Coffeehouse! Food Drive: Next week, Nov 17-Dec 2, Edison will be collecting nonperishable foods for the food drive. We are competing against other schools within the Champaign area. To make this a little more fun, we are also having a competition between the teams; student teams will be considered based on homeroom. Each team will have a box to place the nonperishable foods in and a canister for any monetary donations.
Cinderella at Centennial: The Centennial Playmakers are proud to present its children's show, Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2:00. Appropriate for all ages, tickets are on sale before and after school and at the door and are $5.00 for students, children and senior citizens and $7.00 for adults. The show runs 90 minutes. Come and see this loving fairy tale come to life.
The Producers at Central: Step 1: find the worst play ever written, Step 2: Hire the worst director in town, Step 3: raise two million dollars. ... There's a lot of little old ladies out there!, Step 4: We hire the worst actors in New York and open on Broadway and before you can say, Step 5: We close on Broadway, take our two million, and go to Rio. Come see The Producers, a musical about writing the worst musical ever--This Weds through Saturday at 7 and Sunday at 2:30, Central High School. Cost is $10 for adults and $7 for children (though the content could be considered PG-13).
College Gear Fridays: Students, wear your Avid or college gear on Friday. Every Friday!
Mini-Grants: The Edison PTSA Academic Fund supports special projects that cannot be funded with allocated classroom budgets. Mini-grants of up to $100 each are available to any Edison Middle School faculty or staff member. Attached is the application form, which is due by Friday November 14. You can complete the application and send via email to kimcollins@yahoo.com or print the form and leave in the PTSA mailbox. For questions, please contact Kim Collins at the email address above.
Building Council –What do we do? We don't discuss district issues, personnel or curricular matters, or discipline problems, but we do brainstorm ways to improve and enrich our school environment, and make things run more smoothly for Edison students and staff. We would like to recruit more parents to building council meetings. Consider attending a meeting (held in Mrs. Borchardt's room):

Spring Musical: plans for the Spring Musical are underway, but your help is needed. Organizers are collecting memories of Edison from the past 100 years; please spread the word and send stories to Mrs. Welty Peachey at weltyan@champaignschools.org.
Social Probation: Please talk to your students about social probation, which is exclusion from participation in and/or attendance at an extracurricular school-sanctioned activity like ball games, concerts and dances. A student will be placed on social probation if/when:
•He/she has not served the assigned detentions minutes
•He/she is failing one or more classes
•Administration places him/her on social probation.
County Market Max Dollars for Education: if you're a County Market shopper and wish to designate Edison as your Max card school, sign up at www.myCountyMarket.com or at the customer service desk at any store. Our school code is 14088.
The Edison Choir meets in the Rm. 110 from 2:50 - 4:00 pm on Tuesdays and until 4:30 on Thursdays. Everyone is welcome; come out to enjoy singing together and bring a friend!
Student Council meets in Mrs. Altenbaumer's room, 234 from 2:45-3:30. We meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month. All students are welcome to join. If you missed the first meeting, talk to Mrs. Altenbaumer or Mr. Freeman, our two Co-Sponsors. You can join anytime during the year. Come make a difference in your school.
