January 11

 

• Reminder to 8^th Grade Families: 
CUScholars Presentations this week! High school registration is just around the corner!  Your 8^th grade student will be signing up for their 9^th grade courses soon.   Volunteers from our local business community will be giving presentations at Edison on Wednesday Jan. 11th and Thursday Jan. 12th on the importance of taking challenging courses and going the extra mile during high school so they will have more choices after they graduate. 

• PTA Council Meeting: PTA Council will meet on Thursday, January 12 from 7-9 pm in the Library of Booker T Washington Elementary (if you haven't seen the new building this is a great opportunity to do it). Liz Thomas will be giving a presentation on Positive Behavior Facilitation followed by the regular business meeting. Anyone is welcome to attend–hope to see you there!

 

• Essay Contest: The local Rotary held a essay contest for the 8th graders in the Champaign schools.  We had three winners at Edison and the district winner over all the Champaign schools.

Hannah Shinew was the 1st place winner for Edison and the District winner

Ben Jefferson was the 2nd place winner

William Kanter was the 3rd place winner

They received Amazon gift cards for $200, $100, and $50 respectively.  They also had that same amount donated to a charity of their choice.

Payton Woods used the narrative that he wrote for me first quarter in a hunting magazine essay contest and he won $100.00

 

January 10

 

• Family Information Center is moving: Attached is a flyer about the Family Information Center moving to the corner of Neil and Bradley.

 

• Edison Choir: Choir is moving to Tuesday's after school!  Come by today after school from 2:40-4:00 for our first rehearsal of the new year.  Anyone is welcome, even if you didn't participate last semester.  We would love to have new members!  If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Tock at tocker@champaignschools.org

 

• Honor Roll Party: The Honor Roll party is Friday, January 20^th for students who made the Honor Roll for 2^nd quarter. The students look forward to this reward for their hard work. We are asking parents to donate food items. The food items don't have to be individually wrapped and no drinks. Bulk food items like chips, cookies, crackers etc. Please drop off the food donations on January 20^th. All donations are greatly appreciated.

• THANK YOU: A hearty thank you to all the Edison families that contributed cookies and candy to the staff cookie walk before break.  We were able to fill 75 bakery boxes for the staff to grab on their way out the door for winter break.  This is even more participation than last year!  The help of the two wonderful ladies that helped me fill the boxes was also greatly appreciated.  We have fantastic, generous families at Edison!

8^th Grade Parents below are important announcements for you!

 

• Attention 8^th Grade Parents!! Future Freshman Night: Attached is more info about Future Freshman night for Central and Centennial Schools. 8^th Grade parents and students are strongly encouraged to attend.

 

• High School Registration: Parents should have received a letter from the district regarding high school registration. High School counselors will be at Edison February 7^th . Edison's counselor will give course books to students soon to help them select their courses for 9^th grade.

 

• Career Crusing: 8^th graders at Edison participate in a computer program called Career Cruising. This program allows students to explore their interests and helps them figure out what career they might be best suited for.

*Edison had the lowest discipline referals in the district out of all the middle schools!

 

*Congratulations to our wrestling and volleyball teams! Our wrestling team attended an invitational tournament in Bloomington on Saturday.  The following wrestlers received medals:

                                Drake Mingo – 2^nd

                                Darnell Fleming – 3^rd

Julien Turner – 4^th

                                Isaiah Unander – 6^th

 

 Our volleyball teams attended the Rantoul Bulldog Invitational on Saturday.  Both teams won 1^st place.
