Edison's Mission
It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.
Audio Visual Arts Club: Do you like to rap, sing, dance, act, or have a special talent? Do you like to record videos or music? If so, join the Audio Visual Arts Club. The Audio Visual Arts Club will be making multiple videos throughout the year and we want you to be a part of making the video. You saw the "Comets Don't Get Tired" featuring staff, now come make a great video featuring you. We will hold our first meeting afterschool in the auditorium, Wednesday, September 2nd. Come and get all the information about the club and find out how you can be a part of our first student video of the year!
Choir: Does your student sound awesome singing along to the radio in the car? The Edison Choir meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4pm. The choir is open to anyone who likes singing. You don't need any experience to join us. We're going to have some great times this year! Parents, if you have questions please contact Mr. Dare at dareje@champaignschools.org
Mandatory Band Parent Meeting: parents of students in band are required to attend one meeting in the Edison auditorium, Thursday and Friday at 6:30pm. Parents are only required to come to one of them (preferably Thursday). Also a reminder of the group email list; if you know someone not getting emails please contact: dbeck72@gmail.com
Builders' Club will begin meeting after school on Wednesdays, starting September 9 in Mrs Easton's room (above the main office). If you love building, or if you want some experience using tools, join us! No experience necessary. This year we will work on a couple little projects, then we'll join Garden Club out at a local farm to assemble a chicken coop and build hoop houses for the winter. Lunch Reminder: Students are NOT ALLOWED to order lunch and have it delivered to the school. If a parent wants to bring lunch to their student (Mcdonalds, pizza, etc) they have to stay with the child and eat with them in the cafeteria.
Come join us for Fall Open House on Monday, September 21, from 6:30-8:00. This will be a great opportunity for you to learn more about Edison, meet teachers, and see some of the wonderful extra-curricular activities we have to offer.
PTSA: the first PTSA meeting of the school year was held on Monday August 17. Minutes are attached, as is the proposed budget for 2015-2016. Thanks to everyone who attended for all the great ideas and enthusiasm! The next meeting will be Monday September 14 at 6 pm in the Edison Library (rescheduled from Sept 21 to accommodate Open House).
Athletic Announcements will now be sent separately from the regular email announcements.
After School Clubs and Activities: most clubs don't get started right away in August, so please stay tuned. We will send a list of clubs as soon as it is available.
Drop Off and Pick Up: Prairie Street (west of the school) is one way going north during drop-off and pick-up times. To keep kids and vehicles safe, cars coming from the west (turning left onto Prairie) may pull over on the left side of Prairie, and cars coming from the east (turning right onto Prairie) pull over on the right side of Prairie. Please try to wait for the car in front of you to pull away (instead of trying to pass) as there will be a lot of kids trying to get to the blacktop. Do not drop off on Green Street.
Champaign Public Library change in hours: if you plan to have your child spend time at the Champaign Public Library after school, please note their change in hours. The library will close at 6 pm on Thursdays and Fridays. You can find library information here: http://www.champaign.org/
