Edison's Mission
It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.
First Day of School information from Ms. Schoonover:
I am so excited about the start of the school year! There are a couple of things that I would like to communicate about the first day (which is tomorrow: Wednesday August 19)
Start Time: Students are allowed on the black top starting at 7:30 and will be allowed in the cafeteria for breakfast at the same time. We ask that students do not come earlier than this because supervision will not be available.
Schedules: Students will have the opportunity to pick up a new schedule tomorrow morning before school starts. If it is not raining we will have tables set up by grade level on the black top. If it is raining we will have an alternative plan that will work best with the flow of the building which will be expressed to students tomorrow morning.
Materials: Most classes will not require many materials tomorrow other than a pencil/pen and notebook. Please do not have students bring their backpacks with all of their materials. The teachers will tell students when to bring their materials.
Lockers: Lockers will be distributed to students on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, depending on the team assignment.
Cell phones: Students are allowed to have cell phones on their person but they are not allowed to be visible or on during the school day without teacher/and or administrator approval. If you need to get a message to your student please contact the main office.
Snacks/Food and Drink: Snacks and food/drinks will not be allowed in classrooms without teacher approval nor will they be allowed in the hallway. We ask that all food and drinks be put away until students are in the cafeteria.

Drop Off and Pick Up: Prairie Street (west of the school) is one way going north during drop-off and pick-up times. To keep kids and vehicles safe, cars coming from the west (turning left onto Prairie) may pull over on the left side of Prairie, and cars coming from the east (turning right onto Prairie) pull over on the right side of Prairie. Please try to wait for the car in front of you to pull away (instead of trying to pass) as there will be a lot of kids trying to get to the blacktop. Do not drop off on Green Street.
Champaign Public Library change in hours: if you plan to have your child spend time at the Champaign Public Library after school, please note their change in hours. The library will close at 6 pm on Thursdays and Fridays. You can find library information here: http://www.champaign.org/

Spiritwear ordering information: Spiritwear is now available to order online at www.campussportswearinc.com/edison. We are taking orders until August 28 and we will have the items available for pickup at Open House on September 14. For questions, contact Alicia Beck at alicia.beck72@gmail.com.
The PE department is collecting Box Tops: please send in to Mrs. Wells or ask any home room teacher to put in Mrs. Wells' mailbox.
Athletics: schedules for XC (revised), baseball, boys basketball, wrestling, girls basketball, and volleyball are attached. Boys baseball begins begins Sat., Aug. 15 and our first home game will be on Sat., Aug. 22. Our only home XC meet is Sat., Aug. 29 - this is fantastic event. There will be over 500 kids participating!
Girls Basketball Tryouts will be August 31 and September 1. Details are attached.
Extended Hours for Physicals at Carle: Carle Pediatrics and Family Medicine will offer extended hours for school physicals on August 10–13 and August 17–20. This clinic will be available for Carle patients entering kindergarten, 6th or 9th grade and for new students entering the Champaign Unit 4 School District who need a physical by September 1.
Physicals will be provided at Carle Urbana on Windsor, located at 1818 E. Windsor Road in Urbana. You must schedule an appointment to receive a physical. Appointments will be available throughout the day and after-hours on the above dates. No weekend appointments will be available.
Please note insurance will not cover the cost of your visit if you have received an annual physical in the last 12 months. Availability of appointments may be limited. Call (217) 326-1894 between 7 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday–Friday to schedule an appointment.
