The Edison PTSA wishes everyone a fun summer! We will be posting announcements about athletic info, school registration, and all things Edison as it becomes available.
May 31
- Important Dates:
6/1 Last Day and Early Dismissal (9:10 am)
8/11 Registration (8 am–1 pm and 4 pm–7 pm)
8/15 Late Registration (10 am–4 pm)
8/22 First Day of School
- RC Flying Club: Edison's RC Flying Club has participated in this and had a great experience. Please feel free to come out and join them. It's a great family activity.
Our Flight Training program will start on Thursday, 5/19/11 and continue every Thursday evening through the summer (weather permitting) at the CCRCC Airfield (on 150 between Champaign & Mahomet) from about 5:00 pm until dusk. The last session will be on 9/22/2011. The sessions will be cancelled without notice due to strong rain, strong winds > 15mph, and threatening thunderstorms.
The club provides the models, fuel, and expert instruction - so just bring a positive attitude and enthusiasm (a hat and a pair of good sunglasses certainly wouldn't hurt either). This is open to the public and no prior experience is necessary. Come out and join the fun!! All students are invited to come to the CCRC Flying Field every Thursday 5 to 8 pm. during the summer. There will be RC planes there for you to learn to fly.

- Principal Update for Edison: We are pleased to announce that Justin Uppinghouse has been named Interim Principal at Edison. Tony Howard has been named Interim Assistant Principal. Congrats to both!

Next year will be a busy and exciting year for Edison. We are still looking for parents to volunteer for committees. - Central Freshman Football: If your 8th grader is interested in playing football at Central next year and you would like to find out information about up coming events and be put on the Central Football Boosters email distribution list, please send Jennifer Clarke your email. jennifer.n.clarke@gmail.com

- Congrats to Mrs.Easton!! Mrs. Easton gave birth to a healthy and beautiful baby boy! Samuel James Easton Born May 11 at 2:44pm 7 lbs, 0 ozs 20.5 inches long. Mama and baby are both home and doing well.
- Athletic Info: Registration deadline for Boy's basketball camp has been extended until June 3 Please mail registration form and check to Jackie Borchardt (900 N Schluter, Thomasboro, IL 61878) after June 1.

· IESA physical for is attached (a current physical is required for any student wanting to participate/tryout for any sports offered at Edison. Please check the deadlines of when the physicals are due to avoid students not being allowed to participate/tryout
Community Events:
- Champaign Public Library: Tamora, Tortall & You! Don't miss your chance to meet the one and only Tamora Pierce, best-selling author of the Song of the Lioness quartet and other popular fantasy books for teens. She'll be at the Champaign Public Library June 4 for two free programs, one at 10:30 am & 3:30pm. Pierce will talk about her writing, sign books, and answer your questions. Registration is not required, but it guarantees you a seat and enters you in a drawing for a free book by Tamora. Send a short e-mail to us at bsu@champaign.org. Explain why you deserve the honor and how her books have affected you. Entries due by 5 pm Fri., May 27. Include name, phone, preference of lunch or a front row seat, and which program time you will attend. Winners will be notified on Jun. 1.
- What is your teen doing this summer? Power Learning two-week accelerated learning workshops are designed for middle and high school students entering 5th - 12th grades. Power Learning workshops build intellectual and academic skills which equip students to excel in all academic endeavors and tests involving writing, reading, and critical thinking skills. Located in the heart of the University of Illinois campus, English Center USA has provided professional English instruction to the Champaign-Urbana community for the past 15 years. This summer, our outstanding, experienced faculty will offer the following accelerated workshops:

At County Market You can sign up for OR register your current County Market Max Card for Education to Edison Middle School, the number is #331. Remember even if you have already registered this needs to be updated annually. Target has a similar reward program called Take Charge for Education. Simply apply for a Target charge (Red Card)/debit card, get approved, and Target donates 1% of your Red Card/Target Debit card purchases to your school.
